South Carolina Shorebird Project

The South Carolina Shorebird Project (SCSP) unites organizations, entities, and people supporting shorebirds and seabirds populations in the Palmetto state. Through volunteerism, research, advocacy, education, and conservation, SCSP is a collaborative partnership that strives to make South Carolina a safe place for all of our coastal birds.

The South Carolina Shorebird Project was established in 2007 as a response to the growing threats and vulnerabilities facing coastal birds in our state. It consists of a group of county, state, federal, and NGO partners working together to achieve shorebird conservation in South Carolina through surveys, outreach, and education.

Over the years, the South Carolina Shorebird Project has continued to involve people and organizations throughout the South Carolina coast promoting protection and increasing public knowledge of both shorebirds and seabirds.

In recent years, funds from the SCCB has helped to improve and revamp the South Carolina Shorebird Project with:

  • New website; a hub for resources, information, events and more- www.scshorebirdproject.com

  • Seasonal e-newsletters; with latest news and updates on projects and partners throughout the state

  • Annual Shorebird Festival Week; public events offered to engage with, learn about, and witness the magic of coastal birds in South Carolina

  • Tabling Items and Activities; updated materials and giveaways

  • Interpretive Signage; installed at various key beach access points throughout the coast
